Is my file uploaded to a server?+
No. Conversion happens inside your browser, so your file never leaves your device. Only the conversion engine (a small script library) is downloaded, and only when your file needs it.
Why does the page load so little code?+
The page detects your file type first and then downloads only the matching engine: a PDF reader for PDFs, a Word reader for DOCX, a spreadsheet engine for Excel/CSV, and so on. Images, audio and text need no download at all.
Which formats can be converted?+
Images (PNG, JPG, WEBP, BMP, ICO, PDF), PDF (text, HTML, JSON, page images), Word DOCX, PowerPoint PPTX and ODT (text, HTML, PDF, DOCX), Excel/CSV/ODS (XLSX, XLS, ODS, CSV, TSV, JSON, HTML, PDF), JSON (CSV, XLSX, XML, PDF), text/code/Markdown (PDF, DOCX, HTML, JSON), audio (WAV) and video (WAV or a frame image). Every file can also be packed as ZIP, Base64 or Hex.
Why isn't every format available for every file?+
Some formats (PSD, DWG, EXE, MKV/AVI video, DOC, Keynote and others) need heavy desktop software to convert properly, which a browser cannot do. Instead of producing a fake "converted" file, the tool offers ZIP, Base64 and Hex for those.
Why can't I extract text from a scanned PDF?+
A scanned PDF is really a photo and contains no text. Extracting text from it needs OCR, which this tool does not include yet. You can convert its pages to PNG or JPG instead.
Why can't I select text in a PDF made from text?+
Text-to-PDF draws each page as an image so that Hindi and every other language display correctly without font problems. If you need selectable text, choose the DOCX option.
Is there a file size limit?+
It depends on your device's memory. Files up to about 200 MB usually work well. For Base64 and Hex, keep files under 40 MB.
What happens with audio and video?+
Audio is converted to WAV. From a video you can extract the audio as WAV or save one frame as PNG/JPG. Converting a whole video into another video format is not supported in the browser yet.
